In commemoration of AIDS Awareness Month, General Santos Doctors Hospital held an HIV/AIDS Forum at the Medical Suites along with the celebration of its Foundation Anniversary, December 8, 2019. Participants who attended the forum received an update on the current trend in the city and country in relation to HIV/AIDS. Dr. Mely Lastiomoso, the Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit Head of the city, shared much of her knowledge and expertise to the participants. “In other countries, wala nang HIV positive na bago kasi lahat ng infected nila ay umiinom na ng gamot, meaning mababa ang viral load. Iyon yung gusto nating mangyari na by 2020 wala nang bagong HIV positive,” Dr. Lastimoso shared during her talk. AIDS Awareness Month is celebrated every December to raise awareness to the public, remember those who have passed on, and celebrate victories such as increased access to treatment and prevention services.
